1. Stop Using Oil-Based Products
It's almost a guarantee. If you use products that are oil-based on your face, you will have clogged pores, and you will suffer from blackheads and breakouts. Instead, use products (like moisturizers, makeup, and sunscreen) that are water-based.
Get into the habit of reading the labels. If a product's label says that it is non-comedogenic, this is the product for you. And, if you use make-up, always wash it off your face at night before going to bed.
2. Use a Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser
Benzoyl peroxide not only helps unclog clogged pores, it also kills the bacteria that can cause acne breakouts.
But don't go overboard. You might thing using a cleanser with the highest percentage of benzoyl peroxide you can find it the best way to clear up and prevent breakouts. But this ingredient can cause skin irritation, especially in high doses.
Start with a product that contains 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. If, after a few weeks, you aren't seeing the results you want, move up to a product that contains 5% benzoyl peroxide.
3. Don't Scrub your Face
We've all heard it before. The best way to prevent breakouts is by keeping your skin clean. So many figure that, the harder they scrub their face, the cleaner their skin will be.
But scrubbing your face won't make it any cleaner. In fact, all scrubbing will do is irritate your skin and aggravate your acne. Instead, gently wash your face. The cleanser you are using will do all the work, and won't make your breakouts worse.
4. Stop Squeezing your blackheads
If you do get a blackhead, don't squeeze it. You're just depositing oil from your fingers on your face and spreading it around. Sometimes it seems almost impossible not to squeeze the blackheads that have popped up on your chin, nose, or forehead. But it is a temptation you should try to fight. Squeezing blackheads, whiteheads and pimples will only irritate or inflame them, and they will end up looking and feeling worse than they already do. Squeezing blackheads can also leave a scar or dark mark behind.
Learning how to prevent blackheads is as simple as knowing what you should do, and what you shouldn't do. Keep these tips in mind, and you will be able to prevent future blackhead breakouts.
